Is Fiji Water Bad For You?

Fiji Water is a brand of artesian water.  This means that its source is an aquifer.  An aquifer is a naturally-formed chamber found underground, made out of layers of volcanic rock.  The chamber is pressurized and contaminants are kept out because of the protective rock layers that seal it off.  In order to gain access to the water, a well or borehole has to be created.

Fiji Water’s source is on a remote island in the Pacific called Viti Levu.  The island is one of the world’s most pristine locations.  The water’s source is in a place called Yaqara Valley.

When the water travels to the aquifer, natural processes purify it.  The natural artesian aquifer it makes its way through is protected by numerous layers of rock that seal it off from contaminants.  Natural pressure pushes the water to the surface.  Fiji Water is bottled at the source, and there is no need for any additional filtration. But is Fiji Water bad for you?

Is Fiji Water Bad for You?

No, Fiji Water is not bad for you.  In fact, it’s beneficial to your health.

It is thought that the fresh, clean flavor of Fiji Water is partly due to the fact that when there is rain, it is filtered by the volcanic rock layers.  It is during this process that many minerals and electrolytes accumulate in the water.  These elements have beneficial health effects.

Overall, it is thought that Fiji Water could very possibly be the healthiest bottled water on the market.

Why is Fiji Water Good for You?

The previously described natural filtration process is one reason why Fiji Water is so beneficial.  Fiji Water is also good for you because it contains the minerals we discussed.  These include calcium, magnesium, and silica.

Fiji Water is bottled in plastic that is free of BPA, and is considered high-grade PET in quality.  The water bottles are, of course, recyclable.  This brand of water is the United States’ most popular.

The Importance of Hydration

Most of us know how important hydration is to health.  The cells, tissues, and organs of the body need water in order to function.  Water is used by the body to lubricate the joints, remove waste, maintain correct temperature, and complete many other vital functions.  It’s impossible to be healthy without proper hydration.

You should make sure to drink water whenever you feel thirsty.  Different people require different amounts of water each day; on average, a good guideline is considered to be between about six to eight glasses.

One sign of possible dehydration can be amber-colored or dark yellow urine.  If you are properly hydrated, your urine will probably be light yellow or colorless.  Water is the best choice of drink for getting and staying hydrated.

Quite often, people mistake thirst for hunger.  This can lead to weight gain and all the health problems that can result from being overweight or obese.  The next time you feel hungry, try drinking some water instead.  If you are still hungry after drinking the water, then you can eat.

Some symptoms of dehydration can include:

  • Feeling of being lightheaded or dizzy
  • Confusion
  • Headache
  • Lack of tears when crying
  • Intense thirst
  • Fatigue or sleepiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dark urine
  • Low amounts of urine

You will be at greater risk of dehydration if you engage in intense exercise without rehydrating as you should, you are in hot weather, you have a specific health condition (for example, bladder infection or kidney stones), you are ill (and are experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, or fever), you are breastfeeding or pregnant, you are attempting to lose weight, or you have difficulty accessing enough water during the day.  You might be at higher risk if you are older.

The Benefits of Electrolytes and Minerals

Electrolytes are special substances with a specific electrical charge that your body needs to maintain a healthy balance.  Electrolytes are available in a number of different forms such as, for example, sodium, calcium, magnesium, phosphate, potassium, and chlorine.  Electrolytes allow your body to keep up the correct amounts of water.

They also facilitate proper action of muscles and balance blood acidity.  You lose the most electrolytes when you sweat.  This is one reason that you need to replenish them when you exercise.

One of the minerals found in Fiji Water is calcium.  Calcium is necessary to the body for a number of reasons.  It helps to maintain the health of bones and teeth.  It is also useful in fighting obesity and preventing colon cancer.  Calcium helps to lessen the risk of forming kidney stones, and is necessary for the prevention of osteoporosis.

The mineral also alleviates the depression caused by PMS, helps in regulating blood pressure, and protects cardiovascular muscles.  Calcium is needed for the body to maintain an optimal alkaline pH level balance.

Calcium deficiency is very common, and can eventually lead to serious problems involving the bones as well as other health conditions.

Symptoms and possible side effects of calcium deficiency can include:

  • Insomnia
  • Worsened premenstrual cramps
  • Gum disease and loose teeth
  • Osteoporosis
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Heart palpitations
  • Sudden muscle spasms, cramps, and twitches
  • Arthritis
  • Tetany

Magnesium is another of Fiji Water’s minerals.  This mineral is essential to the proper functioning of the human body and general health.  Magnesium is necessary for the maintenance of steady heart rhythm, bone strength, and the regulation of blood pressure.

Not getting enough magnesium in the diet is common in the United States.  If you are not getting enough magnesium, you might be more prone to inflammation and inflammatory conditions.

General inflammation is believed to create a higher risk of developing certain kinds of cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and many other health problems.  It is likely that low magnesium levels might also put you at greater risk of developing osteoporosis.  A diet insufficient in magnesium (and/or failing to take magnesium supplements) can put you at risk of experiencing nervous tension.

I am a single mother with four little daughters. I work a full time job and have a part time job so we can eat. I live day to day and am currently living in a hotel room and I am looking for a apartment. My car just stopped working and my children need shoes. I have a slight drug problem and a drinking problem. The only joy in my life is FIJI water. Once per month for a few hours I lie to my children and trick them down the road. I watch the Real Housewives of Orange County and enjoy my FIJI water. After the show I buy myself a meal from Burger King and take a walk by the beach. I dream about owning a insurance company like Vicki. Later I go home and go to sleep with the little ones and start my job the next day. Sometimes I hope to wake up as Vicki.
